Routine Dental Care
Regular checkups are an important part of maintaining a healthy smile.
The Australian Dental Association recommends visiting your dentist every six months for regular checkups and routine teeth cleaning, to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
On these regular visits, we clean and polish your teeth. We check for any cavities (holes) or early signs of tooth decay or gingivitis (gum disease). All of this helps us plan the best treatment for you as time goes by.
Routine dental care is the key to maintain a healthy smile, so make an appointment today and we’ll help you look after your smile.
By the way, if you’re not yet a Sale Street Dental patient, we would love to meet you. Make an appointment to experience our patient focused care and to get started with regular checkups.

Little Smiles
A child’s first visit to the dentist should be enjoyable. Children are not born with a natural fear of dentists, but they can fear the unknown.
Paediatric dentistry
Our people make a special effort to use pleasant, non-frightening, simple words to describe any treatment we plan to do. We want you and your children to feel at ease from the moment you arrive at Sale Street Dental. The more you and your children know about the first visit, the better you will feel.
For most children, we recommend a first dental appointment at the age of three. On this visit we assess children’s level of cooperation and how best to talk and work with them. We judge the success of the appointment by your child’s willingness to come back to see us.
Of course, if you have concerns about your infant’s teeth at any age, please come for a visit.
Our goal is for your children to get the best early preventative oral care — which leads to fewer dental problems and worries later in life, to let them keep smiling!
Child Dental Benefits Schedule
Sale Street Dental is proud to support the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which entitles children to $1,052 worth of Medicare-funded treatment every two years. Supporting some 3.4 million Australian children aged 0–17, the schedule has been in place since 2014. Read more about it here or simply get in touch with our team.

Procedures
Restorations (fillings)
Joanne, Lindsay, Matthew and Clifford take great pride in placing ‘pain free’ restorations that, along with good oral hygiene and diet, will provide years of service.
Over the past several years, the trend has been to use composite or ‘white’ fillings. Most of our restorations are of this sort. There are, however, times when other materials may be more suitable.
The dentists will discuss your options and decide on the most suitable materials for you prior to commencing any restoration work.
Extractions
If you need a tooth extraction and are looking for a quality service, Sale Street Dental can help.
Schedule an appointment to experience first hand how a necessary extraction can help your health. Our professional team is here to guide you and your family every step of the way.
You will be in good hands. We provide pain-free dental extractions.
Should we decide that your extraction will be more than usually complex we will refer you on to highly skilled oral surgeons.
Root Canal Treatment
At Sale Street Dental, scheduling root canal treatment is simpler than ever.
Personalised root canal treatment allows patients to keep certain teeth in which the nerve has been compromised.
Joanne, Matthew or Lindsay will discuss your suitability for a course of root canal treatment and take time with you to plan it.
Teeth bleaching
Are you wanting a lighter, brighter smile? Come and see us.
Tooth bleaching safely lightens the colour of your teeth for up to three years. The safest and most effective method of tooth bleaching is dentist-supervised. We plan it with you.
You can benefit from tooth bleaching if your teeth are stained by coffee, tea, smoking or simply darkened by age. Teeth stained yellow, brown or orange respond better to lightening. Results are less dramatic in teeth with grey stains caused by fluorosis, smoking or tetracycline.
If you have very sensitive teeth, periodontal disease, or teeth with worn enamel, your dentist may discourage bleaching.
So what’s involved?
A dentist or hygienist takes impressions of your teeth from which to make a custom whitening tray, just for your mouth. It’s very lightweight and comfortable to wear, whether you’re awake or asleep.
Along with the whitening tray you’ll receive the bleaching materials.
In most cases we’ll ask you to wear the custom whitening tray for 1-2 hours per day (or overnight), for seven nights, over a one or two week period. This allows you to decide on the final lightened appearance of your teeth.
The lightened teeth should last for between one to five years, depending your personal habits (such as smoking or drinking coffee and tea), but this supervised home bleaching treatment lets you do touch ups easily.
Teeth whitening is safe. The only potential side effects are slight gum irritation or tooth sensitivity but, because the bleaching solution is very weak, any sensitivity will disappear when the treatment ends.
So what can you expect, realistically?
No one can predict how much lighter your teeth will become. Every person is different. Typically, however, there is a two-shade improvement on a dentist’s shade guide.
Success depends upon the type of stain and your compliance. Bleaching can only provide a shift in colour — from grey to a lighter shade of grey, for example. Bleaching does not lighten your crowns or restorations, unfortunately.
Book a bleaching consultation with us if this is something you would like to know more about.
In chair whitening
Looking for faster results? Our in-chair whitening treatment can make your teeth several shades lighter. It targets stains from coffee, smoking and alcohol, and emphasises the beauty of shiny enamel and generally can be done within an hour.
In preparation for the whitening process, we will assess the best product to use for your particular teeth. We may also prescribe a three day course of treatment to lessen tooth sensitivity, if you need it.
The treatment consists of the application of whitening gel in a thin layer. We protect the gel from saliva as it does its work. We then wash it off, and you’ll see the results immediately.

Emergencies
We set aside several emergency appointment spots per day that we allocate by urgency.
If you are suffering from facial swelling, are in extreme pain or have suffered a trauma affecting your mouth, please call T’meeka or Amy immediately. They will let you know when the next emergency appointment will be available.
For other dental concerns such as a broken tooth or less acute discomfort, we will still attempt to get you an immediate appointment.

Mouthguards and Sleep Aponea
We make custom mouthguards, occlusal bite splints and SomnoDent Sleep Aponea devices using our new Sirona digital scanner.
Mouth guards are important in team sports. They can both protect your teeth and help prevent concussions.
Sleep aponea and occlusal dysfunction can be detrimental to your health. Dr Lee is a certified SomnoDent provider and works with sleep physicians in Orange to provide an alternative to CPAP machines.

Referrals
We look after most of your dental needs in-house. For some procedures, however, we ask specialists to take care of you.
Such procedures include:
- orthodontics (braces),
- periodontal surgery (gum surgery),
- oral surgery (difficult wisdom teeth under general anaesthetic),
- some endodontic treatment (failed or very difficult root canal therapy), and
- dental implants.
- paediatric dentists
Where possible, we refer you to specialists who visit Orange, but a visit to Sydney or Canberra is sometimes necessary.
